Actor-turned-politician and now a Congress leader Shatrughan Sinha on Monday favored the name of Priyanka Gandhi for the new president of the grand old party.
Lauding Priyanka Gandhi for a recent standoff with the Uttar Pradesh government over Sonnbhadra Firing Incidents, Sinha said, ‘It’s my humble appeal that she would be apt as the party president to lead ahead. It will be a shot in the arm’.
Taking to Twitter, Congress leader Shatrughan Sinha stated, ‘Yesterday/day before the timely involvement by the most popular, bold, dynamic leader of Congress #PriyankaGandhi for #SonbhadraMassacre was reminiscent of the late & great Madam Gandhi. During her Belchi days, she had traveled on an Elephant’.
‘Priyanka broached everything with determination, commitment and courted arrest with a smile. Her being in custody was uncalled for. She displayed tremendous composure in those circumstances. It’s my humble appeal that she would be apt as the party President to lead ahead’, Shatrughan Sinha said in a tweet backing Priyanka Gandhi.

Sinha said Priyanka’s leadership will be a boost for the Congress party in particular and political parties in general. “She is a role model of a true dedicated leader. Other political parties should learn and follow her too,” he added.
Shatrughan Sinha backing Priyanka Gandhi’ name came on the backdrop when she met the family members of the victims of Sonbhadra firing incident that claimed lives of 10 people, in Chunar after hours of a tussle with Uttar Pradesh Administration.
Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East Priyanka Gandhi was detained on Friday by the Uttar Pradesh Police when she was on her way to Sonbhadra to meet the family of those killed in July 17 firing incident.
Uttar Pradesh Police, citing the imposition of Section 144, taken Priyanka Gandhi into detention. She was later taken to Chunar Guest House, Mirzapur from Varanasi. The whole Episode had upped the political temperature of the state.
It should be noted that Rahul Gandhi, had on July 3, officially step down from Congress President Post saying that he is responsible for the loss of the 2019 elections.
