Shiv Sena, one of the long term partners of BJP, has announced its support to BJP’s presidential candidate, Ram Nath Kovind. Ram Nath Kovind was recently announced as the presidential candidate by ruling BJP.

This announcement by Shiv Sena chief, Uddhav Thackeray, comes a day after the party had stated that it will not back the candidate because of the fact that he has been chosen to woo the Dalit voters and does not have a mass appeal.

With this announcement, Uddhav Thackeray also stated that with the support of Shiv Sena, BJP will not find it difficult to get their candidate elected. He was interacting with the reporters at his residence yesterday. He also added that Amit Shah had spoken to him after this announcement was made. Shiv Sena had earlier suggested names of RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat and agriculturist MS Swaminathan.

While being asked, if Uddhav would change his decision to support BJP candidate if the opposition announced either of Bhagwat or Swaminathan as their candidate, he said that the decision would not change now.
