Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) Chief Prem Singh Tamang who is popularly known as PS Golay took the oath as the new Chief Minister of Sikkim at Paljor Stadium in State’s Capital Gangtok. Apart from Chief Minister Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad administrated the oath to 11 SKM MLAs.

Prem Singh Tamang, popularly knowns as PS Golay is currently not a Member of Assembly. However, he was elected as the SKM Legislature Party leader on Saturday.

According to rules, SKM President PS Golay will have to get elected to the Sikkim Assembly within six months of holding any ministerial office.

PS Golay-led Sikkim Kranti Morcha in the recently held state polls unseat Pawan Kumar Chamling-led Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) after over 24 years. Hundreds of SKM supporters gathered at the stadium for oath-taking ceremony of 51-year-old party chief PS Golay.

The Sikkim Kranti Morcha SKM was founded in the year 2013 by PS Golay who was once a member of SDF and was the Minister in the Government of Sikkim.

The SKM in recently held elections bagged 17 seats in 32-Assembly State. While Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) won 15 Assembly seats.

The 11 SKM leaders who took the oath as ministers are Kunga Nima Lepcha, Sonam Lama, Bedu Singh Panth, Dr. Mani Kumar Sharma, Arun Kumar Upreti, Sandup Lepcha, Lok Nath Sharma, Mingma Norbu Sherpa, Karma Loday Bhutia, Bhim Hang Limboo and Sanjit Kharel. Sikkim can have a maximum of 12 ministers, including the chief minister.

The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha also registered a victory on the state’s lone Lok Sabha Seat with almost 12,000 votes.
