Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani launched a fresh set of attacks on Congress President Rahul Gandhi during her one day visit to Congress Bastion, Amethi. Irani who was in the Congress Stronghold said, “Why was Rahul Gandhi silent when Madhya Pradesh CM spoke against UP and Bihar migrants? How will he see eye to eye with people of Amethi today?” soon after arriving in the district.
Congress President is also slated to visit his Parliamentary Constituency on the same day. However, Amethi to miss the stiff face-off as Rahul Gandhi delays his visit to attend the Rafale Debate in Parliament. This would be the first occasion when both Rahul Gandhi and Smriti Irani will be in Amethi on the same day.
Before heading to the Congress Home turf, Irani retweeted a news featuring the report about AgustaWestland with a comment, ” Rome” aur RaGa ki kahaani!”

Irani while talking to reporters said “Amethi is no more a stronghold for Rahul Gandhi. He
lost all the seats from Amethi. Amethi should be known as a territory of development. If Congress had a stronghold in Amethi, Rahul Gandhi should have won all the elections in the last five years in Amethi.”
Speaking about the Posters claiming Rahul Gandhi as next PM visible in Amethi, she said, Rahul Gandhi does not have the blessings of Mayawati, Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav in the grand alliance. Yet, nothing stops him from daydreaming. Reportedly, SP and BSP have finalized a seat pact in UP and has kept Congress away from Coalition.

Irani is slated to attend a programme organized by Raghav Sewa Sansthan during which blankets and financial assistance will be distributed to poor persons and a foundation stone for a school will be laid.
Though both the leaders have visited the area several times in the last five years, this is the first time for Rahul Gandhi in his Constituency after his party registered a resounding victory in three Hindi Heartland States.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi had in 2014 General Elections defeated BJP‘s candidate Smriti Irani from Amethi. Irani’s frequent visits to Amethi hints at that she is expected to contest from the Amethi seat once again in the 2019 General polls for which she has been trying to increase her influence through frequent visits.
