In a bid to support Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, party key leaders including Chattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is heading towards Sonbhadra while Sachin Pilot has issued a protest call in Jaipur. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi is currently protesting against Uttar Pradesh government for not allowing her to meet the family of victims of Sonbhadra Killing Incidents.

In the meantime, Congress Senior Leader Rajiv Shukla, who was heading towards Sonbhadra, was detained at Varanasi Airport. ‘We were detained at the airport soon after we arrived. Now they have allowed us to go to Chunar’, said Shukla as quoted by ANI.

Rajeev Shukla was accompanied by party key leaders including Deepender Singh Hooda, Mukul Wasnik, Raj Babbar, Ratanjit Pratap Narain Singh, Jitin Prasada, among others.

‘The state Congress Committee will stage a dharna on the call of the All India Congress Committee to protest the arrest of General Secretary in Sonbhadra (UP) Priyanka Gandhi who was on her way to meet the family of victims’, said Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister and Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot.

While Chhatisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced that he will be heading towards Sonbhadra. ‘Atrocities on tribals cannot be tolerated at all. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhiji is standing with the victim’s family. I am also going to Sonbhadra. Satyamev Jayate!’, he said in a tweet.

While earlier in the day, Congress Delegation led by Pramod Tiwari met and submitted a memorandum to Governor Ram Naik over Sonbhadra firing incident that claimed lives of 10 people.

Earlier on Friday, Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh East Priyanka Gandhi was detained by the UP Police when she was on her way to Sonbhadra to meet the family of those killed in July 17 firing incident. Uttar Pradesh Police, citing the imposition of Section 144, taken Priyanka Gandhi into detention. She was later taken to Chunar Guest House, Mirzapur from Varanasi.

In a series of tweets, She continued training guns on Uttar Pradesh Government. She said that she will meet the family of those killed in Sonbhadra and dared the government to arrest her if they want to. ‘If the Government wants to put me in jail for the crime of meeting the victims, I am fully prepared for it’, she said in a series of tweet.

The firing incident took place in Ubbha Village of Ghorawal where the head of the village went to take the possession of the land which he purchased two years ago. However, the Village Head met with Opposition from the villagers which triggered the firing that led to the death of 10 people.
