Bangladesh Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina met senior Congress leaders on Sunday in the national capital. The meeting included Interim President Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Deputy Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Anand Sharma.

Sheikh Hasina was also greeted by Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi earlier in the day. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abdul Momen, other senior ministers and PM’s advisers were seen along with Sheikh Hasina.

In the meeting, Sheikh Hasina invited the Gandhi family to attend the celebrations of the 50th Independence Day of Bangladesh. The event will be organized to honor the marking day of the Bangladesh-liberation war of 1971. Gandhi family has accepted the humble invitation. The party has also released a statement to bring out the minutes of the meeting.

During the discussion, the leaders shared the long-lived bond between the two nations. While PM Sheikh Hasina extended her gratitude to the Gandhi family for India’s support in the 1971 war, Sonia Gandhi congratulated the PM for her 3rd consecutive win in the elections. The meeting also saw the leaders remembering the bond of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Presently, Sheikh Hasina has become the longest-serving prime minister of Bangladesh. Congress leaders have also been reported to praise the PM for her efforts in the economic transformation of the neighboring nation. Owing to her dedicated commitment, Bangladesh has been added to the list of developing countries.

Speaking to the reporters about the meeting, Anand Sharma told that there was no discussion of NRC (National Register of Citizens) between the senior leaders. As quoted by ANI, he said, “There was no discussion about NRC. It is an internal matter and neither we talked nor did they talk about it.

Sheikh Hasina had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday to discuss the issues between the two nations. Sheikh Hasina was on a 4-day visit to India for deepening bilateral relations.
