Mamata Banerjee Sonia Gandhi

As the presidential election approaches, the opposition has started to gather all its cards. In the bid to make their case stronger, Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday spoke to Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee to seek her support for the common candidate fielded against the BJP’s candidate.

The two leaders have agreed to hold a meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday, May 16th to discuss their plans further.

Congress has been in good terms with Mamata Banerjee led TMC, however, in 2016 West Bengal assembly elections, Congress fought in the state jointly with CPM and the ties were affected. The two parties seek a rebuild to come together and present a strong case in the upcoming elections.

Both Sonia Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee have been fairly active before the presidential election. Sonia Gandhi has been leading the charge against BJP and at the same time, Mamata Banerjee is also seen meeting leaders to send a word out about her intentions to publicly take it on BJP on a much broader level.
