Twenty-six Lok Sabha members belonging to AIADMK and TDP on Wednesday were suspended for five days by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan for causing a regular ruckus in the House by storming near the podium, tearing papers and throwing them towards the Chair.

“26 AIADMK MPs have been suspended by Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan for ‘continuously coming to the well of the house and obstructing house proceedings,” said a tweet by news Agency ANI.

The AIADMK members were protesting against the proposal for a dam across Cauvery river in Karnataka while the TDP members were demanding special status to Andhra Pradesh. When the Lok Sabha was to take up a discussion on the Rafale deal, the AIADMK and TDP MPs jumped near the Speaker’s podium and started sloganeering.

Both TDP and AIADMK Members have been constantly pressing for their demands since the very first day of the winter session of Parliament. The AIADMK parliamentarians were shouting slogans against the construction of dams across Cauvery region while the TDP members seeking special category status for Andhra Pradesh.

Though the Centre earlier has ruled out the chances of granting special to Andhra Pradesh. On December 19, The central government while replying to a question by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) member Kanakamedala Ravindrakumar in the Rajya Sabha reasserted that it had already allotted special package to the state.

Sumitra Mahajan, Lok Sabha Speaker said, “All of them stand suspended for five consecutive sittings of the House,” then adjourned the House for the day.

Later, the suspended AIADMK members took out a procession within the Parliament complex shouting slogans against the Centre government.

AIADMK member speaking about their suspension later said, “Now elections are coming, so BJP wants to get some seats there, that is why they gave approval to Karnataka for Mekedatu dam project. Protesting is our democratic right, there has been no response from Govt”

The House also saw Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley launching sharp attacks on each other over Rafale Issue.
