Actor-turned-politician Sunny Deol on Tuesday took oath as Member for Parliament on the second day of the 17th Lok Sabha Session. Deol, who defeated a political heavyweight from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha Seat got massive applause in the House as he was called to the mic to take the oath.

In the recent national polls, Sunny Deol defeated Congress sitting MP Sunil Jarkhar from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha Seat with a margin of over 80,000 votes. Deol in the recently held polls secured 5,51,177 votes against 4,74,168 of Congress’s Sunil Jakhar.

Gurdaspur Lok Sabha Seat in the past has been represented actor Vinod Khanna in the past many times from 1998 to 2017. Khanna passed away in April 2017. Later in by-polls of 2017, Congress Sunil Jakhar defeated BJP’s Swaran Salaria.

Apart from Sunny Deol, other MPs who were administrated oath as a member of the House include Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, P Chidambaram‘s son Karti Chidambaram, Bhagwant Mann, among others.

Earlier on Monday, Dr. Virendra Kumar was administrated oath as Pro-tem Speaker by President Ram Nath Kovind and over 300 MPs took the oath during the inaugural session of the 17th Lok Sabha that begins on Monday.

The swearing-in ceremony of all the newly-elected MPs will be spread over two days – Monday and Tuesday. Among other MPs who took oath on Monday include Amit Shah, Rajnath SinghSmriti IraniNitin GadkariHarsimrat Kaur Badal, Rahul Gandhi, among others were administrated oath.

PM Narendra Modi was the first one who took oath on Monday.

Election to elect a new Speaker of the House will be held on June 19th. While the President Ram Nath Kovind will address the joint session of both the houses Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha –  on 20th June.

The Economic Survey will be released on the 4th of July a day before. While next day, that is on July 5th, new Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will table the full-fledged budget in the House.
