Understanding the gravity of the situation, the country’s apex court has decided to consider taking the cognizance of a video showing BS Yeddyurappa talking of Congress-JD(S) legislators in a poor light. Justice NV Ramana headed bench was hearing the case.
The video shows BS Yeddyurappa purportedly saying that the decision of the 17 MLAs to resign, was taken by the central leadership of the BJP. He also went onto say that the party workers should honor the sacrifice of the rebel MLAs.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee has accused the Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa and Home Minister Amit Shah of toppling the HD Kumaraswamy government. HD Kumaraswamy government had collapsed after it failed to win the trust-vote after 17 MLAs of Congress and JD-S resigned. Following it, the MLAs were disqualified by Karnataka Assembly speaker Ramesh Kumar.
Over the matter, the Congress party has also been demanding the resignation of Yeddyurappa. The party had also submitted a memorandum along with a video proof in a pen drive to the President Ram Nath Kovind.
Speaking on the event, BS Yeddyurappa had accused the Congress of twisting his statement. He also said that SG Siddaramaiah is just trying to take advantage of the situation.
Due to the matter still underway in the court, the Election Commission has also postponed the date of by-polls to December 5.
