Praising the decision taken by the Supreme court, BJP party President Amit Shah on Tuesday said that crores of Muslim women across the nation will now enjoy equal rights and can live with dignity.
Shah also appreciated the stand taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi before the apex court supporting the ban of triple talaq.
In his statement to the reporters, Amit Shah said that “We welcome the verdict. The Supreme Court has given a historic decision. This verdict has given the right to crores of women to live with equality and dignity.” He described the judgment as the “beginning of a new epoch for women to live with self-respect”.
The Supreme Court by a majority verdict set aside the practice of divorce through triple talaq among Muslims, saying the practice was void, illegal and unconstitutional and held the practice against the basic tenets of Quran.
