Deputy Chief Minister in Bihar’s National Democratic alliance, Sushil Kumar Modi announced on Wednesday that the present Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar will continue to remain the face of their alliance.

It was widely speculated that the alliance might look for a new face for the upcoming assembly elections of 2020. Bihar will see the elections in October-November 2020 for its 243 seats. In last elections, JD-U had won 71 seats in 2015 assembly polls to become the ruling power in the state with the support of other parties.

Previously, senior Bhartiya Janta Party leader Sanjay Paswan had said Nitish Kumar should now step down as Chief Minister and clear the way for BJP leaders. This created an air of rumor that BJP might go for another option in the upcoming Bihar polls. But the saffron party clarified its stand yesterday regarding the candidacy of Nitish Kumar.

Sushil Kumar Modi, as quoted by ANI, said, “Nitish Kumar is the Captain of NDA in Bihar and will remain its Captain in next assembly elections in 2020 also. When Captain is hitting four and six and defeating rivals by inning where is the question of any change.”

In order to assess the ground-level preparations, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has also decided to visit every district of the state at least once before the election season begins.

The upcoming election season has charged up the political atmosphere of Bihar. Old alliances such as “Mahagathbandhan” are also coming up to revive its power. Last month’s meeting at RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) national vice president and former chief minister Rabri Devi‘s residence is a testimony to this fact. The grouping expressed its views that they had not just come together for election purpose, but they will also fight for the upliftment of poor and downtrodden weaker sections.

On the other side, the state is also witnessing the rise of new groupings. Last month, several lawmakers also came together to form a new political party in the state, named as “Bihar Navnirman Morcha”.  It is led by former agriculture minister Narendra Singh, Renu Kushwaha and former MP from Jehanabad Arun Kumar.
