With by-polls slated in the state for May 19 the list of selected candidates has come to 137 in which independents as well as others are contesting.

For the by-polls slated to be held in Tamil Nadu on May 19, a total of 137 candidates are contesting from the four assembly segments of Sulur, Ottapidaram, Aravankuruchi, Thiruparankundram. Of the total 137 candidates 62 are independents and other party candidates amount to 91.

Nominations of almost 23 candidates where rejected whereas five of them withdrew the nominations. The results will be declared on May 23.

Thiruparakundram has 37 candidates, while there are 22 in Sulur and 15 in Ottapidaram. The contesting parties include DMK, AIADMK, NTK, AMMK, MNM. The last date of filing nominations was April 29. The Ottapidaram constituency is represented by AIADMK MLA Sundararaj, Aravakurichi is represented by Senthil Balaji. Thirupparakundram MLA died last year and so did the legislator of Sulur constituency.
