The Telugu Desam Party is likely to finalise its candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Telangana in a day or two, state unit president L Ramana said on Thursday.

As the party is an ally of Congress along with TJS, it is expected to be allotted 14 out of the 119 seats in the Telangana Assembly.

Talking to reporters after a meeting with party chief N Chandrababu Naidu, Ramana said a list of proposed candidates had been submitted to the Andhra Pradesh CM for approval.

“Our main objective is victory (in polls) rather than the number of seats. We will touch double-digit in the second Telangana Assembly and play a crucial role,” Ramana said replying to a question.

According to party sources the party is concentrating only on seats where it has a high possibility of victory.

Ramana targeted the incumbent Telangana Rashtra Samiti and said that it has lost the confidence of the people. He further expressed confidence that the Maha Kutami (grand alliance of Congress, TDP, Telangana Jana Samiti and CPI) would win the upcoming polls.

“People lost faith in TRS and (Chief Minister) K Chandrasekhar Rao. The grand alliance has been formed to teach a lesson to KCR”, he said.

Talking about seat-sharing among the alliance parties, the TDP leader said everything would be decided soon and a statement will be issued in a couple of days.

Meanwhile, AICC in-charge of Telangana affairs R C Khuntia has said the seat-sharing of the parties have been finalised and it would announce the list after approval by Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

Khuntia said, “Seat- sharing has been finalised. It will be announced after its approval by Congress President Rahul Gandhi”.

The parties of alliance has had a lot of discussion on seat-sharing for weeks. Although Khuntia did not say how many seats the Congress would contest in the polls for the 119-member Assembly but according to the party sources  it would not be less than 90. A TDP leader claimed that his party may get 14 to 18 seats.

Telangana is set to go to polls on December 7.
