Chandrababu Naidu‘s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Thursday staged a ‘Chalo Secretariat’ protest in Hyderabad urging Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao not to demolish the Assembly and Secretariat buildings. Senior TDP leader Ravula Chandra slammed the TRS government and accused Chief Minister of abruptly deciding to demolish the buildings.

‘We are heading towards the Secretariat and protesting against the demolition of Assembly and Secretariat building’, Ravula Chandra told reporters.

He further said that the leaders wanted to meet Governor ESL Narasimhan and discuss the issue. Slamming the government, he said that they are not even allowed to hold a protest at Dharna Chowk. He added, ‘We believe that something concreate will come after meeting the Governor’.

Earlier on June 27, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao aid the foundation stone for the new Secretariat building in Hyderabad amid massive outrage by opposition leaders who were protesting against the decision to construct the new secretariat and Assembly at the old site.

Earlier on June 19, KCR had said that Andhra Pradesh-government led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has agreed to hand over his state’s secretariat two buildings. Therefore we have decided to new secretariat and assembly at that place.

The total estimated cost of the new secretariat and Assembly is said to be around 400 crores.

It should be noted that the Telangana Government has earlier met the Ministry of Defence and urged to hand over Bison Polo Ground for the construction of the new state’s Secretariat. TRS Government has also offered another piece of land to the Ministry of Defence however the issue remains unsolved.
