Telangana Congress Leader Anamula Revanth Reddy was detained by the state police on Tuesday early morning from his residence in Kodangal of Vikarabad district, ahead of Caretaker Chief Minister KCR election rally in the district.

Revanth Reddy was taken into preventive custody early on Tuesday, to prevent any untoward incident during Rao’s rally in Kosgi, Kodangal. Reddy was later shifted to an undisclosed location.

His detention came in view of Reddy’s threat to disrupt the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief’s rally. He had called for a shutdown to protest it. He also threatened to stall the chief minister’s visit to the town.

Election Commission also issued a notice to Reddy for his threat to shut down during KCR Rally. Two cases have been booked against the Congress leader.

While Prohibitory orders have been imposed in the town to prevent any untoward incident, as tension prevailed in Kodangal following Reddy’s detention.

The police also took his brothers, gunmen and even the watchman of his house into custody. But the gunmen and watchman were later released. Sources said Reddy had been taken to Shamshabad police station on the periphery of Hyderabad.

Reddy’s wife Geetha told reporters that police had broken the front door of their house at around 3 am, entered the bedroom and forcibly took him away without even giving him a chance to change.

She termed the move as highly undemocratic. She said  “He has only asked the people to question the government for neglecting the constituency by the TRS government in the last four years and not implementing their promises. I appeal to the people not to indulge in any violence but to maintain peace and show their anger in the form of a vote against the TRS,”.

Reddy, who quit the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to join the Congress earlier this year, represented Kodangal in the dissolved Assembly. High Court has recently provided police security to reddy after he appealed the judiciary to provide security in the wake of threats to his life.

The Telangana Assembly Elections are slated for December 7, while the counting of votes will take place on December 11 with other state assembly elections.
