The Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat at a Press Conference held on Friday announced that the number of voters eligible to cast their vote for upcoming Telangana assembly elections has come down by two lakh in comparison to voters in 2014 Assembly Elections. OP Rawat who was in the state reviewed the poll preparation along with two other officials from the Election Commission. The Telangana will go for polling in a single phase on December 7.

Informing about the total number of voters in the state, He said, ‘a total of 2.80 crore people could use their right to vote as compared to 2.82 crores in the last assembly election of 2014, as per the data prepared by the Telangana State Election Commission authorities’. ‘ Of 2.80 crore voters, approximately 1.41 crore (50.35 percent) are men and the remaining 1.39 crore were women. The electorate also includes 10,038 service voters. “A marginal 2,885 voters belonging to the third gender have also registered as voters’ he added.

He also said to look into all the suggestions and feedback sent by various political parties in order to put a mechanism that ensures the fair, free and inclusive polls in the state.

In order to keep a close watch at all the  Violations of the model code of conduct in the state assembly, the EC has launched a mobile application “Cvigil”, that will allow the common people to register a complaint if they came across any violation of model code of conduct.

He said the EC would ensure strict follow of model code of conduct and strict action would be taken on every complaint received in this regard.

The state with 119 seats will poll on December 7. The results will be announced on December 11 with other state assembly elections.
