Mamata Banerjee

Despite being rivals in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress and CPM will likely vote for a common presidential candidate in the upcoming Presidential Elections.

According to an ET report, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee recently indicated her party members that the main intention was to stop BJP’s growth in Bengal and to fight the party on a national level. Sources claimed that TMC isn’t looking to decide a candidate and will back the one decided by Congress.

In the last presidential elections, Mamata Banerjee was fairly active. Before supporting Pranab Mukherjee as the candidate, she had tried convincing former president APJ Abdul Kalam to content the polls, however, he did not acknowledge the request.

Mamata Banerjee is to meet Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on May 16th. 3 days later, she will hold a meeting of her MLAs, MPs and core members of the party.
