Trinamool Congress leader and Former Bidhannagar Mayor, Sabyasachi Dutta joined the Bhartiya Janta party on Tuesday. The leader joined the saffron party in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Dutta has mentioned about his induction into the saffron party on Monday. The leader also urged Amit Shah to “cool down” politically volatile Bengal. Speaking on the event, Sabyasachi Dutta said, “For me, the country and its interests are much bigger than personal or a party’s interests. India has achieved new heights under the leadership of Prime minister Narendra Modi.

Sabyasachi Dutta had resigned from his office of Mayor in July this year, Following which, the party said that it has no relation with Dutta. TMC general secretary Partha Chatterjee said that the party is not at all bothered about the leader’s switchover. Taking a jibe at Dutta, he said, “Let him go and check which is more powerful, the twin flowers (of TMC) or the single lotus.

Previously, former Kolkata Mayor and Trinamool Congress MLA Sovan Chatterjee had also joined the BJP. It has been reported that many leaders of the TMC party had left the side of Mamata Banerjee and joined the hands of lotus party. Leaders like Biswajit Das Tusharkanti Bhattacharya, Monirul Islam, and Sunil Singh are some of the few names among these.

Now a total of eight TMC MLAs have left the party to join the BJP.
