Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb will be visiting Mizoram to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming state assembly elections which is scheduled to be held on November 28. Tripura BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty informed the media that Deb has been given this ‘special responsibility’ to join the Assembly poll campaign in the neighbouring state. Deb will also be accompanied by state Social Welfare Minister Santan Chakma.

In a statement by Chakraborty, he said, “It is a tradition in BJP that leaders join campaigns and shoulder organizational activities in neighbouring states. Many chief ministers from northeastern states will join the campaign for Mizoram Assembly elections, including Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Tripura CM Biplab Deb was also given special responsibility to join campaign there”.

He further added that Deb and Chakma had addressed a poll rally at Kamalanagar, the headquarters of Chakma Autonomus District Council. As the part of the campaign the Tripura CM will be visiting five Assembly constituencies of Mizoram. Deb will also be going to other Assembly seats as well to join organizational activities, the sources informed. He also informed that a team of BJP leaders led by general secretary Pratima Bhowmik was sent to Mizoram to look after the preparations ahead of Chief Minister Deb’s visit in the state.

Mizoram is the only state in northeast India where Congress is in power. BJP is keen to win this state as well and perhaps complete its motto of ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’ in one part of India.

Earlier this month, BJP president Amit Shah also visited Aizawl, where he began the party’s election campaign and said the BJP would contest in all 40 Assembly seats in Mizoram. He showed confidence in BJP’s win as he said that Mizoram would celebrate its next Christmas under BJP’s rule.

Earlier too, Biplab Deb had campaigned for BJP at Chengannur in Alappuzha district of Kerala as part of by-polls. In this poll, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) emerged victoriously.
