Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has asked for report from, Mamata Banerjee led Bengal government, regarding the unrest and agitation going on in the hills.

Trouble in Darjeeling started on Thursday when Mamata Banerjee was holding her cabinet meeting at the Raj Bhavan there. The GJM, which was opposing the state government’s move to make Bengali compulsory in the Hills, became violent and set on fire several police vehicles. GJM activists also pelted stones at the police, which in turn burst tear gas shells to disperse the protesting GJM activists.

Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), an ally of BJP had earlier written to Rajnath Singh, demanding a separate state of the region and giving details of the political situation prevailing in the hills.

Significantly, GJM had held an all party meeting in Darjeeling and the main enemy of GJM, Gorkha National Liberal Front (GNLF) also attended the meeting. GJM along with GNLF has collectively decided to disapprove the police action in the hills.
