The UP cabinet on Tuesday, gave a nod to the proposal to change the name of Faizabad district to Ayodhya, a week after CM Yogi Adityanath made the announcement on the eve of Diwali stating that the town was the symbol of “our honour and pride.” Faizabad division will also be called Ayodhya now.
The note issued by the government on this proposal said that the name-change is justified on the basis of facts that Ayodhya was the capital of the legendary “Ishvaku dynasty” and the birthplace of Lord Ram. The government note also said that the land has always been identified as Ayodhya.
The State cabinet also changed the name of Allahabad Division and District to Prayagraj lately.
