Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and independents have bagged 2 seats each in contest for mayoral and chairman’s posts in 84 civic bodies in Uttarakhand.
BJP has a comfortable lead on 6 other seats, the independents are leading in 4, and the Congress candidates in just 2.
Counting for votes began 8 am onwards on Tuesday and independents bagged 80 seats in the initial round for the 1064 corporate seats, the BJP won 20, while the Congress came a poor third with just eight seats.
