NDA announced Venkaiah Naidu as the Vice-Presidential Polls candidate on July 18 against the opposition candidate Gopal Krishna Gandhi. The two contenders will be facing the elections for the next Vice-President of India on Aug 5 and the results of the elections will be announced on the same day. The incumbent Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari will be vacating the office on Aug 10.

Before filing the nominations for the elections on July 18, Naidu met former Prime Minister and BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee and party veterans LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi. He first met Advani and Joshi and then drove to Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s house to seek his blessing.

Naidu also met few non-NDA party leaders like AIADMK, the YSRCP and the TRS, who have extended their support to him for the elections. Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav has also extended his support to him.
