Vikas Swarup, the official spokesperson of Union Ministry of External Affairs, has been appointed as India’s high commissioner to Canada. According to an official release, he will take charge shortly and replace Arun Kumar Sahu. Sahu  is currently working as an acting high commissioner to Canada.

Vikas Swarup is an officer of 1986 batch to IFS (Indian Foreign Services). He is famous for his debut novel Q&A, which was later adapted as the Oscar winning movie Slumdog Millionaire.

Vikas Swarup had taken the post of official spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs in April 2015, when he replaced Syed Akbaruddin. He has been very active on social media and a popular face of the current government since his appointment. He was not reachable for comment immediately.
