Telangana Polls: Big Setback for TRS, MP Vishwewar Reddy quits party

Telangana Rashtriya Samithi’s Parliamentarian from Rangareddy’s district of Chevalla, Vishwewsar Reddy quits amid rumors about him joining the Congress. The move is critical as the state is inching closer to the state assembly elections where the ruling party is making all efforts to consolidate its position.

The assembly elections which was earlier scheduled for next year will now take place on December 7, after KCR’s move to push elections early elections in hope of keeping his voter base together before the mega Lok Sabha Elections of 2019.

According to local political scholars, Visweswar Reddy belongs to an influential Reddy community who has a deep impact in few constituencies of the state. And its resignation from the party at this crucial time is a major setback for the ruling outfit.

If sources to be believed, Reddy likey to join Indian National Congress later this month during UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s visit to the state.

According to a party source, Visweswar Reddy was unhappy with the party’s approach towards him and felt he was given due importance. In a three-page letter to the TRS Chief and CM K Chandrashekhar Rao, he added ideological reasons which led to criticism. There was a speculation about another lawmaker from the party, Seetharam Nail, would also quit which came to halt after the press conference held on Tuesday.

Currently, the ruling TRS has 63 seats in an assembly of 117 seats, while Congress had 22 with BJP having 9.

The state will go for polling on December 7 and the results will be announced on 11 December along with four other state assembly elections.
