Following Owaisi’s jibe at Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, remarks have cornered in for support from all corners. The fresh one to do so was Union minister V K Singh. He, on Friday, defended General Rawat’s remark on AIUDF’s growth link with illegal immigration in the northeast.

Mr Singh, who is the Minister of State for External Affairs, told at an event,

“See, we have a habit of politicizing everything. Let the army chief say what he wants to. If you don’t like it, you don’t like it. That’s it.”
“Everything is being politicised these days,” Mr Singh added.

Gen Rawat had referred to the increased reports on the proliferation of Muslim population in several districts of Assam. He further commented that the All India United Democratic Front has grown faster than BJP in the 1980s.

Gen Rawat was addressing a seminar in New Delhi where he had also said that a “planned” influx of people from Bangladesh into the northeast is taking place. This influx, he said, is a part of proxy warfare by Pakistan. China is a party to this and is constantly supporting Pakistan in keeping the area disturbed.

AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal had criticized the army chief for his “politically driven comments.” He also said that his responsibility is to lead the armed forces for the security of the nation and not to monitor the growth of a political party.
