After Nitish Kumar broke the mahagathbandhan and joined hands with BJP, the opposition’s candidate for vice-president polls, Gopalkrishna Gandhi was suggested not to take JD(U)’s support for the elections. But Gopalkrishna Gandhi rejected this suggestion.

“Nitish Babu’s decision is his decision and his prerogative,” Gandhi said when asked about Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Tariq Anwar suggesting that he should publicly say no to JD-U votes in view of Bihar Chief Minister and JD-U chief Nitish Kumar crossing over to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Gopalkrishna Gandhi did not comment about Nitish Kumar’s decision of entering into an alliance with BJP. Gandhi also did not elaborate on the support being extended to him by the RJD, whose leaders are facing allegations of corruption.

After joining hands with BJP, CM Nitish Kumar has still backed his support to the opposition’s candidate for vice-president polls.

Vice-President elections are scheduled for 5 August.
