Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that they will continue their protest against Citizenship Amendment act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) until they are withdrawn by the Central government.

Mounting a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP), the Chief Minister said, “Only BJP will remain here and everyone else will be made to leave-it’s their politics. It’ll never happen. India is everyone’s. If there is no ‘sabka sath’, how will they do ‘sabka vikas’? Whom did they bring Citizenship Act for? We are all citizens. Didn’t you cast vote? Don’t you live here?”

She further said, “Once I was alone. Today Delhi’s Chief Minister says that he won’t allow this. Bihar’s Chief Minister says that he won’t allow NRC, I’ve urged him not to allow Citizenship Amendment Act too. Chief Ministers of Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Kerala echoed similar sentiments.”

Earlier, violent protests escalated to several areas in West Bengal as mobs set buses ablaze, set afire railway property and blockaded road and rail disrupting train and vehicular movement against the new Citizenship Amendment act.

Beledanga railway station complex in West Bengal‘s Murshidabad district was set on fire on Friday evening by thousands of people protesting against the newly amended law. The protesters also thrashed personnel of the Railway Police Force that were at the Beldanga railway station complex.
