Despite Rahul Gandhi extending full support to Mamata Banerjee‘s Dharna that erupted following the tussle between the Central Bureau of Investigation and West Bengal Cops, Congress State Unit seems to be going in contradiction with its National President’s stand. West Bengal Unit of Congress Party has announced that it will hold a massive protest against Chief Minister and TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee.

The Congress party in the state has decided to organize a rally on February 6 to demand the immediate conclusion of the investigation in Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund scams, refund to the investors and immediate arrest and prosecution of the accused in the Narada scam.

Earlier on Sunday, Congress President Rahul Gandhi in a tweet supported the West Bengal Chief Minister. He said the entire opposition will stand together and “defeat the fascist forces”. He tweeted, “I spoke with Mamata Di tonight and told her we stand shoulder to shoulder with her. The happenings in Bengal are a part of the unrelenting attack on India’s institutions by Mr. Modi & the BJP. The entire opposition will stand together & defeat these fascist forces“.

However, taking a quite different stand Congress West Bengal Unit has announced to take on Mamata in the state. Questioning the Police Commissioner, West Bengal state Congress president Somen Mitra on Monday said why Kolkata Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar is avoiding interrogation by the central investigating agency in the chit fund scam. Opposition backs Mamata Banerjee’s Dharna as Police clashes with CBI, Centre moves Top Court

“At the national level, our stand is to be with all the parties including Trinamool who are against the BJP. But in the state politics, state Congress will fight with both the TMC and the BJP.” Mitra alleged that the TMC forced 14 Congress MLAs and Malda MP Mausam Noor to join the party, killed supporters and worked against the democratic structure. “Given this, how can you expect me to join hands with the TMC in Bengal?” asked Mitra reported News18. Dent in Congress’ West Bengal Bastion; Malda MP Mausam Noor joins TMC ahead of LS Polls

Earlier on Sunday, Mamata Banerjee sat on sit in protest Dharna after a tussle between CBI and West Bengal Cops erupted over questioning of West Bengal Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar on Shardha Chit fund scam.

‘Whatever happened today is worse than the emergency. It was no less than a coup. CBI is harassing in ‘Gabbar’ style, West Bengal Chief Minister said on Sunday.

Opposition’s Uproar over the issue also halts Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha proceedings on Monday.
