‘Why Gandhis are afraid of using the Nehru surname’, asks PM Modi

PM Modi replied to the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Even before the Prime Minister’s speech began, the opposition started raising slogans, which continued throughout his 90-minute long speech. The PM said, the country is seeing that one single person is overshadowing many. People have to change even to speak slogans. I’ve been talking for an hour alone, and haven’t stopped. There is no courage in them, they are looking for a way to escape.

“If we miss out on mentioning Nehru anywhere, Congress gets upset. Nehru was such a great person, then why does none of them use the Nehru surname. What is the shame in using the Nehru name,” PM Modi questioned in Rajya Sabha.

He said, some people need to realise that the ancient nation is one that was built on the sweat and traditions of ordinary people over many years. There is no family property. In the honour of Dhyanchand, we have awarded the Khel Ratna. Subhash Chandra Bose, a Param Vir Chakra recipient, inspired the naming of the Andaman Islands. The peak of the Himalayas has been made Everest.

The PM said, when anyone comes into the government, he comes with promises to do something for the country. He comes with promises of doing good to the public. Merely expressing feelings does not make the point. As it was once said to remove poverty, nothing happened in 4 decades. What is the speed of development, the intention of development, its direction, efforts and results, it matters a lot.

The Prime Minister said there was no electricity in the villages. There were villages in the North East and in isolated areas. There were communities on hills. They didn’t care about providing electricity because they lacked vote banks. We promised to draw a line on a stone rather than butter. We provided electricity to 18 thousand villages. Happy that remote villages have seen a ray of hope after so many years of independence.

Earlier governments only had electricity for a few hours. The hamlet formerly buried a pillar, and each year on its anniversary, people would commemorate it. We were able to supply electricity for 22 hours today. People weren’t abandoned to their destiny by us. We opted for a course of action that would brighten the future of the country without considering political gain or loss. We chose the route of diligent work.

  1. Oh really? If so, then why does he criticise AAP when they’re providing free electricity and water to people in Delhi? He’s talking about people in villages who lived very self sufficient lives. After 2019, I have been to many villages with power outages all the time. A friend of mine living in a village has told me that the power outages are so often that he feels his family has wasted money to buy electrical devices. A motor, washing machine, television, mixer, grinder, air conditioner and water heater together cost a lot. About 3~10 lakh rupees. All useless because of power shortages. They have left their beautiful village with trees, fields and fresh air and moved to a dusty city. I have lived in a village for an year and the power shortages were so frequent that even an inverter was useless as we couldn’t charge it. What is the point of providing electricity for villagers if you don’t do it properly? It is all for votes. Just propaganda. If there is no proper data to prove or justify what they say, why is nobody questioning them? Fact is that Modi is an uneducated supporter of hindutva terrorism. He claims that Hindus can’t be terrorists just to save his face. There are terrorists in every religion. Terrorism has nothing to do with religion itself but it is the radicalism and angst-spreading cultism of religion that causes terrorism. The way he not only ignores but also promotes hate in the country is evidence enough. People must open their eyes.
