Aam Aamdi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said he would back Rahul Gandhi for next Prime Minister if he would agree to give full statehood to Delhi. Speaking in an interview, Delhi Chief Minister said, ‘Barring BJP, he would the party whichever party forms the government if it supports AAP’s demand of Full statehood for the national capital.

Replying to a specific question on Congress President, Kejriwal said, ‘If Rahul Gandhi is considered as a next PM candidate, then I will support him only if he supports our demand of Full Statehood for Delhi’. He added, ‘same goes for TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee as well’.

Reacting on the remark, Delhi State In-charge PC Chacko said, “Getting full statehood for Delhi is not as easy as AAP thinks’, There are just Delhi centric, he added while saying that they should understand that these are national elections and they should think beyond just Delhi.

The Delhi ruling Aam Aadmi Party in a run-up to the national elections has promised Full Statehood to the national capital if it bags all 7 Lok Sabha Seats of Delhi.

Addressing a press during the launch of party manifesto on April 25, Kejriwal said, “If the statehood is achieved, then women will be safer and employment opportunities will increase. There will be a better quality of education”.

He also highlighted the fact that the party would make sure a reservation of 85% in Delhi Government jobs as well as in Delhi colleges.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is contesting all 7 seats in the national capital after rounds of deliberations failed with the Congress. The party has named Atishi from Delhi East, Raghav Chadha from Delhi South, among others for the mega battle of ballots.

Lok Sabha Polls 2019 has already begun and is being held across Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Counting of Votes and Results for the mega Battle of ballots will be announced on May 23.
