Winter Session of Parliament to commence from December 11

The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) has recommended convening of the Winter Session of Parliament from Dec 11 to Jan 8. Dec 11 is also the day when counting of votes would be done for Assembly elections in the five states – Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram. Session usually starts in Nov and was delayed this year due to the elections.

This is going to be the last full-fledged Parliament session of the BJP govt prior to the Lok Sabha polls.

The heated controversy over the Rafale deal, Ram Mandir debate and the Assembly election results, might bestride the parliamentary proceedings.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Goel said,“We seek the support and cooperation of all parties for the smooth functioning of Parliament during the session.”

In the 20 working days during the session, the govt is likely to push for the passage of the Triple Talaq Bill pending in the Rajya Sabha.

Also the government desires the Indian Medical Council amendment ordinance and the companies amendment ordinance be passed in this session.
