Members of Youth Congress and workers of the party on Wednesday demonstrated outside the residence of Congress President Rahul Gandhi urging him to take back his resignation and continue as the party President.

Earlier, a similar demonstrated was organized by Delhi Pradesh Congress Chief Sheila Dixit urging Rahul Gandhi to continue a party president.

In the meantime, Sonia Gandhi chaired a Congress Parliamentary Party meeting in Parliament. If reports to be believed, Rahul Gandhi is said to be unmoved over the decision of resigning from the party’s Top Post. Sources claimed that Rahul Gandhi was determined not to take back his resignation as the Congress President.

Earlier on May 30, Youth Congress passed a resolution urging Rahul Gandhi to continue as Congress President. The Resolution passed by the Youth Team of Grand Old Party stated that Rahul Gandhi gave the bold leadership to our party by standing with Truth and for Justice at a time when the country was fighting to protect the Ideo of Indian Democracy.

Gandhi had offered to step down from his post at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held on May 25. Reportedly despite the CWC rejected his resignation, now an MP from Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi is said to be unfazed.

The Congress had on May 25 held its Working Committee meeting to discuss the reasons responsible for its poor performance in the recently held national polls 2019. Rahul Gandhi taking moral responsibility of defeat had offered his resignation and asked party leaders to get a new name for party president post.

The Congress faced a crushing defeat in national polls and won 52 seats, which is only 8 more than it got in 2014 national polls. It has also lost some of its strongholds across the country including Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Jyotiraditya Scindia‘s Guna in Madhya Pradesh.
