In 2002 a Sadhvi in a letter written to Haryana High Court and then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had complained about Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim sexually harassing her. Following her complaint, the Hogh Court had ordered Sirsa Session court to investigate the facts of the letter.

After about four years of investigation finally, the statement of the Sadhvi who has filed the complaint could be registered after which the CBI filed a charge sheet file in Ambala CBI Court in July 2007 under section 376, 506 and 509 against Baba Ram Rahim from where the case was shifted to Panchkula later.

As per the latest updates of the case, the district court in Panchkula on Friday has announced Ram Rahim guilty of sexually exploiting the Sadhvi. The court will now announce his sentence on August 28. The court can give a sentence of 7 years of imprisonment to the Dera Chied Gurmeet Ram Rahim. Which means that he will have to stay in jail till does not get a bail. As per the rules, if the accused is sentenced imprisonment for more than 5 years, the guilty will have to apply for bail in the Supreme Court.

If the court announces imprisonment sentences against Ram Rahim than he will have to apply for bail in the supreme court. In that case, the Dera Chief will have to stay in jail until his bail is granted.

The court’s verdict against Ram Rahim has spread the wave of sorrow among millions of his supporters across the country and even abroad. Though the state administration has taken every possible step to ensure the stability of law and order in the states of Punjab and Haryana, the agitated followers may anytime announce a revolt against the verdict.
