Jainism is one of the oldest religions of the world. Jainism believes in non – violence and equality in all the forms of life. They have the highest degree of literacy of any religious community in India reaching to 94% approximately. Jainism is a religious minority in India, with 4.2 million adherents. Jainism is divided into 2 sectors – Shwentambar and Digambara. The manuscript libraries are the oldest in the country. The 24 propagators of their faith are known as Tirthankaras, Adinath as the first Tirthankara and Mahavira as the last.

There are numerous Jain Temples in Bangalore, in various localities so that the followers are not deprived of their regular prayers, irrespective of  being in any part of the country. The Jain Community is scattered throughout Bangalore –  Chikpet  and Vijaynagar being the most occupied by them. They have migrated from various states and hence the religious sentiments are taken care by the Jain Association of  Bangalore. The Jain Temple at Jayanagar 4th block is the most prominent Jain Temple. The architect is marvellous and the white marble depicts peace and harmony.

The temple consists of Vyakhyan hall and Bhojan shala and is dedicated to Lord Dharmanath Jain, who was the 15th Tirthankar of the present age. The Vyakhyan hall is majorly used for the spiritual speeches and bhajans where the crowd is comfortably seated and completely involved in the spiritual world. The food at Bhojan Shala is prepared without the use of onion, garlic and any other vegetables that grows underground (tuber).

The main mulnayak of this temple is “Dharamnath Bhagwan” with idols of Mahavir swami Bhagwan, Antariksh Parshwanath, Shankeshwar Parshwanath Bhagwan,  Nakoda Bhairav, Mandibhadra Dada & Padmavati Devi. It is a Shetwembar Jain temple, yet people from all religions are entertained.
