If there is something that appeals most to the Elephant God, then it is the modaks. Dough cups pleated together to form a fluted top are not just a favorite of our Bappa, but also of all his devouts. And if you are welcoming him into your homes and want nothing more than to impress him, what better than offering him some tooth-some modaks.

While you are busy with all that spadework, Bindiya Chotrani helps make it easier for you. Here’s a line-up of sweat-meat shops and restaurants that are doing modaks for the Ganeshotsav this year.

Diva Maharashtracha
If you’re entering into a comatose of sorts with all that sweet extravagance, then the chefs at Diva Maharashtracha are listening to you. The place has on offer, modaks with a creamy mushroom filling, a green-peas-and-cashew modak, and even kheema (mince) and prawns modak. However, these modaks are not on the menu.

Give your modaks a savory makeover this year, and we promise your guest won’t complain.

Modakam
Modakam, most aptly named and located (read Siddhivinayak), is all about modaks minus experimentation and variety. With a giant modak adorning the sweetmeat shop, the place is a favourite amongst modak-loyalists. Puskaraj Gaikar of Modakam proudly tells us that the only modaks served here are the basic chaste ukadiche modaks. Handcrafted, or made without moulds, these modaks are sold out well before 7 pm

Panshikar
While exotic and chocolate-flavored modaks are in vogue, patrons at Panshikar, Dadar swear by their mawa modaks. The place, which has been operating for a long time, is a favorite among Dadar residents and is popular for its mawa modaks stuffed with flavourful khoya, cardamom powder and rose essence.

Puranmal
Puranmal, a house of traditional vegetarian cuisine, is gung-ho about the Ganesh Festival this year. Exotic Modaks like kdiche, tuttifrutti, healthy oats, kiwi and chocochips n coconut; Puranmal is the happening valley for sweet lovers

Ghasitaram Sweets
For all those with a sweet-tooth and dietary restrictions, you may not want to go into hibernation during the occasion this year. Ghasitrama Sweets addresses your woes. You can find some delicious sugar free modaks at this place. The place is particularly famed for its kesar (saffron), kaju, rice and coconut modaks.
