Suryanarayana temple -Temple of Sun God – true to its name abundance of natural light- sunlight pours in, with fresh air as a temple has open space. Surya Narayana Temple is located in Domlur on old airport road in the heart of the city. Dedicated to the Sun God, it is one of the most renowned temples in the world dedicated to Lord Suryanarayana. It was established by Sri Patel D. R Krishna Reddy in the year 1995, and it was inaugurated by Shree Shree Shree Shiva Kumar Swamiji of Sidda Ganga Mutt, Tumkur.

The temple is magnificently constructed by proficient and crafty artesian in Chola style in rock granite with a huge tower covered with various colorful figures. The idol was brought from Badrinath and is 3 1/4 feet in height and the Prabhavalli has the other navagrahas depicted. Below the deity are the images of Kashyapa and Aditi.

The temple was built in such a way that devotees who enter this temple should not go away disappointed not seeing the god they worship. Hence it has idols of Vaishnavi, Brahma, Nagaraja, Ugranarasimha, Saraswathi, Panchamukhi Ganesha, besides Surya and reclining Adiseshasayi, benignly showering their benevolence to the mortals below. Thematic representation of Shanimahatme, Ramapattabhishekha, and Anjaneya Viswaroopa are also to be seen.

The 32 feet chariot is brought out only on the Rathasapthami day when the devout pull the chariot with a zeal of piety and happiness of being near God. The Sun has been worshipped universally, as it is vital to man’s existence, though Surya is the Adhipathi of the navagrahas, when combined in the form of Vishnu, he becomes Suryanarayana.

It is not very large or very small temple. It’s medium but one of the beautiful temples to visit in Bengaluru and for the locals during weekdays and weekends. For outsiders, if they are curious to explore the temples of Bangalore, this is worth a visit temple. Even though architecture is simple, but architecture and miniature elephant stone carvings on the outside of the wall of the sanctum are delighted to see.

This Temple can be reached by bus and auto. One can get down at the Domlur bus stand near the new Shanti Sagar hotel and take an auto. It would be a minimum charge. Overall it is very clean & neatly maintained temple in Bengaluru. This is the only temple in Bengaluru that actually has peace and serenity.
