Facebook has grown up to be one of the most popular social networking site throughout the world. Recently, Facebook filed a lawsuit against a UK-based developer that was illegally harvesting users’ data and another one for running a fake engagement service on Instagram. The founder of MobiBurn and OakSmart Technologies, Fatih Haltas was sued by Facebook at the High Court of Justice in London for not complying with the audit request.

According to Facebook, MobiBurn used to pay app developers for installing a malicious Software Development Kit in their apps so that they can collect the data of Facebook users and social media companies. After installation of those apps, information like the name of the person, time zone, gender and email address were collected by MobiBurn. On the other hand, Nikolay Holper was sued by Facebook at a federal court in San Francisco for running a fake engagement service on Instagram known as Nakrutka. It used bots and automation software system for distributing fake likes, views, followers and comments on Instagram.

Facebook has also stated that Holper was using various websites for selling fake engagement services to users of Instagram and MobiBurn used the SDK installed on the devices to collect any sort of information from users. Facebook has filed a lawsuit against an app developer for the first time in UK. Facebook has now permanently closed the accounts that are linked with the services of Holper and warned him for violating the Terms by sending a cease and desist letter. Facebook has been strict with developers because of the Cambridge Analytica scandal as a result of which, personal data of around 87 million users were compromised.
