In order to maximize the gains due to the TikTok ban, Youtube comes out with this new feature.
The new ‘YouTube Shorts’ is a short video creator thing, just like the Tiktok or the Instagram reels.
As per a report in the Verge, Shorts will allow people to make 15-second videos and it can be set to music as well.
A Youtube spokesperson said “Music for these videos will be available through in-product music picker feature. The picker currently has 100,000s of tracks, and we’re working with music artists, labels, and publishers to make more of their content available to continue expanding our catalog,”
This feature is currently in beta testing on Android and iOS. There is a “create” icon which will be shown predominantly to encourage users to create short videos. The create icon has rolled out on the Android beta version. Soon the iOS beta will also have it.
This is just another feature by a tech-giant to pull the TikTok crowd towards their app. Facebook was the quickest to react, with the launch of reels. Now even Google is in it with the launch of Youtube Shorts.
For now, this feature is going to come out only in India. No news about the launch in the United States or European nations.
