YouTube is testing a new video recommendation format for both mobile and desktop platforms that displays blue bubbles suggesting keywords, creators, and related topics to give a better browsing experience.

The screenshots captured by The Verge show a line of blue bubbles under the video containing keywords relevant to the video. The blue bubble recommendations are more specific than those which appear off to the side. The feature has only been available for a small group of people as of now and might be available to everyone after the tests are complete.

Users have been complaining about the recommendation options on the side of YouTube’s interface for a long time now. The grievances have basically been regarding the irrelevance of video recommendation YouTube chooses to show.

“It’s unclear if the videos that populate from the new recommendation bubbles will face similar algorithmic issues that YouTube’s recommendation feed currently suffers,” according to The Verge.

Although there has not been any word from YouTube regarding the blue bubbles, it looks like the streaming company might launch the new feature as soon as it is done with the testing phase.

The company has also been reported to test a new download recommendation feature to some of its users. while other reports claim that YouTube was seen testing an expansion of its stories feature.

“I think that’s definitely an area where we see there’s an opportunity for us to figure out how can we continue to diversify the content that you’re seeing, continue to improve the recommendations, rely on the authoritativeness of the publishers,” CEO Susan Wojcicki told Wired in March 2018 talking about issues with YouTube’s recommendations when it comes to complex genres like politics.

It is unclear as of now if the recommendation bubbles will follow the same algorithm the recommendation feed currently suffers from, although according to the screenshots captured by The Verge, the recommendation bubbles seem more specific.
