Adobe’s new After Effects tool, content-aware fill for videos will be introduced in today’s Spring update. As always, Adobe’s updates bring performance improvements, new features, and improved efficiency for its video and audio tools.

Adobe today announced its much-awaited content-aware fill to After Effects, the special effects software that is part of its Creative Cloud offering. Adobe has long offered this feature in Photoshop, where you can use it to automatically remove objects from any photo, with the application filling in the blank spaces with appropriate pixels, based on what’s around it. However, doing this for a video is significantly harder because you have to do this for every image while the objects move. But this new feature allows users to remove unwanted objects from videos using its Adobe Sensei’s machine learning platform to replace the tediousness of having to edit frame by frame.

Ahead of the NAB 2019 show coming up next week, Adobe will also be launching a plethora of other video updates for both After Effects and Premiere Pro. Some of those will focus on workflow improvement, including the new Freeform Project panel in Premiere Pro that is designed to allow you to arrange your video clips into select shots so you can build out and visualize a project to come up with new ideas.

As usual, Adobe also worked hard on improving the overall performance of its applications. GPU rendering in Premiere can significantly cut down export times, for example, and mask tracking is now up to 38 times faster for 8K videos (and up to 4x faster for HD scenes).

All of Adobe’s Creative Cloud updates will be available starting today, with additional information on what’s new available on Adobe’s site. Adobe’s full Creative Cloud plans, which cover the complete range of Adobe CC software, start at $52.99 per month.
