The latest and greatest desktop OS of Apple, macOS Big Sur is now available for download for the new Macs.
Big Sur has been in beta since WWDS and it has a multitude of aesthetic and under-the-hood changes for modernizing Apple’s OS. Apple is also dropping the old OS X moniker that has been used for the last two decades. MacOS matches the naming of the rest of the software lineup of the company.
Among the main changes, the UI is more iOS-like in its icons and use of transperencies. There is a Control Center that mimics the one on mobile devices and the same is for the new Notification Center. Users can also use iOS style widgets.
The most important change is support for Apple’s new ARM-based processors which includes powerful M1 chip in the new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini. People who purchase these computers won’t have to upgrade.
Users can now download the update from Mac App store and they just have to make sure that they have a compatible laptop at first.
