Chromebook laptops work on Linux based Chrome OS. They perform most of the work on the Chrome browser. The data of Chromebooks is saved in the cloud. Latest-model of Chromebooks also supports android apps. The one major problem with Chromebook laptops is that their life is fixed. Once the limited time is passed, Google stops sending updates for the laptop. This gives a slow death to the laptop. They don’t receive any security updates, bugs fixes or even software updates.

Usually, the normal lifespan of a Chromebook is 5 years from the day of its launch, but in the latest update, Google has decided to increase the lifespan of 130+ Chromebooks. Here is a list of every Chromebook that is going to receive extended support from Google. Most Chromebooks are getting extended support of one year while some are getting the extended support of 6 months. One of the Chromebook model, the Prowise Chromebook Eduline, actually had its support life reduced by a year (from June 2025 to June 2024). There is no official statement from google upon the reduced lifespan of the laptop.
