The 34-year-old sentimental favorite, Microsoft Paint just keeps hanging on. Microsoft was planning to remove its popular Paint app from Windows 10, but the company has now reversed course.  “Yes, MSPaint will be included in 1903,” says Brandon LeBlanc, a senior program manager for Windows at Microsoft. “It’ll remain included in Windows 10 for now.”

The software maker had been warning Windows 10 users for months that Paint would eventually be removed but those warnings failed from making way into the latest May 2019 update (1903) of Windows 10. In July 2017, Microsoft put the beloved drawing program on a list of features to be removed or deprecated in the next Windows update, spawning odes to the program from media outlets around the world. Soon after, Microsoft clarified that while Paint wouldn’t be a part of the core Windows package, it would be available to download as an app on the Microsoft Store.

LeBlanc hasn’t shared any further details of why the company is giving a reprieve to Paint, but it is likely that user reaction had something to do with this decision. “Today, we’ve seen an incredible outpouring of support and nostalgia around MS Paint,” Megan Saunders, General Manager, 3D for Everyone Initiative, Windows Experiences had said at the time. “If there’s anything we learned, it’s that after 32 years, MS Paint has a lot of fans. It’s been amazing to see so much love for our trusty old app.”

Most of the main MS Paint functions were to be integrated into the more modern Paint Microsoft still remains committed to Paint 3D, or why there will continue to be two paint apps included with Windows 10 in the future.
