Microsoft releases update KB4571744 fixing disk management

The new Microsoft update KB4571744 has been rolled out by Microsoft after some delay.

Well, there is a lot of technical stuff in this update. One key patch is the fix of repeated defragmentation of the SSD. This was leading to data loss or could lead to data loss.

There’s also a welcome improvement for File Explorer, as Microsoft has resolved a bug that caused the file manager to stop working when directors of raw images are loaded.

For IT pros and power users, the new update brings improvements for the Event Viewer. The details are in the changelog below.

Those using the Server Message Block, or SMB, are getting improvements as well.

Microsoft says that Windows 10 devices that will install the August 2020 KB4571744 non-security update might cause users of the Microsoft Input Method Editor (IME) for Japanese or Chinese languages to experience issues with input, to receive unexpected results, or might not be able to enter text.

Microsoft also said that users who haven’t installed the KB4570334 update will have to download and install the standalone package through the Microsoft update package.
