MIUI 10

Xiaomi has been introducing various features to its MIUI OS lately. In the latest beta update of the Android-powered MIUI 10 ROM, the company is bringing dark mode for its system apps like Phone, Contacts, Messaging, Gallery, Calculator, Notes, Screen Recorder, and Updater. The new update also brings dark mode to notification shade, volume slider menu and the recent apps window. In this regard, Xiaomi is taking a similar approach as Google, which is said to be introducing a system-wide dark mode with the Android Q.

According to a report by Fone Arena, which first spotted the dark-mode, Xiaomi has introduced the dark mode for its system apps in MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM 9.2.14, nevertheless, the company has not introduced a system-wide dark mode with the new update. The dark mode will help deliver better aesthetics to smartphones while being easier on the eyes and providing longer battery life altogether. Since the AMOLED displays turn off the black pixels, the dark mode will help elongate battery life on Xiaomi smartphones with such displays.

MIUI 10 Dark Mode

Xiaomi announced the release of the new global beta in a forum post, however, a changelog for the update is yet to be published. The unavailability of a changelog renders us incapable of reporting on what other features would be coming in with the update, apart from the dark mode.

The dark mode is only available on the system apps on MIUI 10 and Xiaomi has not announced the release of a system-wide dark mode. The company is expected to release the MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM V9.2.14 for eligible users from February 15th. Notably, the new dark mode would not be available to older Xiaomi smartphones like the Mi 4, Mi 5, and the Redmi Note 3 Pro, as the company has dropped the development of these devices after MIUI 10.

Xiaomi has also said to have started the development of new and unique MIUI 11 OS and the company might introduce a system-wide dark mode with the OS when it is official.
