Mozilla Firefox New Logo

Mozilla on Tuesday unveiled a new Firefox family of logos. The company reveals that it’s been working on a new design for the last 18 months in a bid to create iconography that shows it’s more than just a browser.

“The ‘Firefox’ you’ve always known as a browser is stretching to cover a family of products and services united by putting you and your privacy first,” Mozilla explained. “Firefox is a browser AND an encrypted service to send huge files. It’s an easy way to protect your passwords on every device AND an early warning if your email has been part of a data breach. Safe, private, eye-opening. That’s just the beginning of the new Firefox family.”

“Firefox” doesn’t just mean the open-source web browser anymore. The new Firefox “master brand” stands for a collection of tools that’ll sport the Firefox name. It includes not just the browser, but also Firefox Send for transferring files, Firefox Lockwise to store and sync passwords, and Firefox Monitor to check if your password was exposed in a data breach.

Firefox seems to be finally a competitive browser again. The last time this happened, Mozilla almost lost focus by trying to build a mobile operating system and lots of other side projects too. However, this time around, it seems to have a clearer mission that centers around privacy, so hopefully, it’ll be able to avoid the pitfalls of branching out well beyond the browser.

Mozilla will distribute the new Firefox browser icon with an update of the software arriving this fall.
