On August 20 , it was a big day for Indians to remember. India’s Chandrayaan-2 lunar orbiter has finished one year on this day. Indian space agency officially confirmed that 4,400 trips around the moon and the spacecraft is getting started. ISRO added that : The spacecraft is running effectively and the performing of subsystems are normal.
On August 20, 2019 , the spacecraft was all along the way arriving in lunar orbit. After the failure of first Indian- led lunar lander, called Vikram in touch down safely, lessons learned will be used vital to design the upcoming mission, meanwhile Chandrayaan-2 orbiter has continue its path – says ISRO.
Chandrayaan-2 also spotted small scale tectonic landforms called lunar lobate scarps, structure that are hard to detect due to small size , ISRO. Moreover , India’s spacecraft gathers high definition imagery and science data. Even it’s also clearing the path for future landing spots for designing a lunar mission.
Some other major investigation done by spacecraft includes detecting signature of Argon-40 and mapping the mineralogy of certain regions of the moon , for instance Mare Tranquillitati. With this it shape out how weather affects earth.
More of it , on May 29, ISRO reported that it’s spacecraft caught the sun shooting out the second strongest flare of 2020 to date when Chandrayaan-2 captured secondary x-ray.
India declared to launch a successor mission , Chandrayaan-3 in January , though it’s not confirmed yet.
Trivia :- Chandrayaan -1 was launched in October 2008 and ended in August 2009.
