Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble

After the appointment of head coach, bowling coach and bowling and batting consultant, now the attention has shifted to the selection process of Indian team manager. An interesting question is being asked to the candidates applying for the job- How would you have dealt with the Anil Kumble-Virat Kohli rift?

A total of 12 candidates applied for the job and all of them were asked to answer this question as a part of their interview. There is no surprise to this question as the logic is simple. The appointed manager should be able to manage such conflicts.

BCCI now is also paying attention to the manager’s role in the team as during the Kohli-Kumble rift, the former manager gave a clean chit to Virat Kohli in his report. However, it was later revealed that Kapil did not mention any controversial events in his report.

Answers to this question came between the captain being fully independent and the matter being solved as early as possible. BCCI has still not announced the name of the full-time manager yet. Also, BCCI mentioned in the advertisement that, “conflict resolution and negotiation skills are mandatory requisites of a candidate and should be able to demonstrate abilities/situations that have been successfully managed during their career.”
